Souvenir making workshops within the EU project "Unknown Krka"

In November and December, learn the art of clay pottery making and felting wool. The workshops are free and are intended for beginners, but also for those who wish to further improve their skills.

As part of the project "Unknown Krka: hidden treasures of the upper and middle reaches of the Krka River" (KK 06.1.2.01.003), co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the Operational Program ‘Competitiveness and Cohesion’ 2014-2020, of total value HRK 80,057,649,15 four free three-day workshops will be held at the Krka Eco Campus in Puljane.

After the workshop, participants will receive a certificate of education. Due to the limited number of participants, applications and enquiries should be sent to the address doris.banic@npk.hr or to the mobile number 0912254006. Preference will be given to local residents and the unemployed.

Workshop participants will learn more about the basics and characteristics of materials, clay preparation, centering and throwing, pot formation techniques, two-piece molds, turning and polishing molds, making and gluing handles and drying.

The workshop will focus on the basics and making colours for decoration, preparation of terra sigillata, graffiato and engobe techniques, decorating and embossed decorations, application of terra sigillata, glazes, polishing and baking.

Participants will learn the skills of making one-piece and multi-piece molds, preparing mold spacers, drying, preparing casting ceramic mass, making ceramics by casting and embossing, and learn more about terra sigillata and baking handicrafts.

The program includes introduction to the use of sheep wool, in the past and today, making felted material with wet felting technique, making a puppet in the shape of a Roman soldier using dry felting technique of sheep wool and by tailoring pieces of clothing and decorating.

Henry Marić, an independent artist from Barban, a town near Pula, has been making and studying ceramics since the mid-1990s. He practices various craft techniques (pottery, casting, raku, terra sigillata, etc.) with special reference to applied and historical ceramics from prehistory to the present day. He presents his work at various festivals, collaborates with archeological museums and artists of various crafts, designers, chefs, musicians, etc. He has been generously sharing his knowledge and skills thorough workshops and lectures for many years.

Marijana Bračić, an independent artist from Skradin, has been felting and producing wool souvenirs in an ecological way for the past eight years. She presents her art of making souvenirs from sheep's wool to the visitors to Skradin, and in schools and kindergartens. She shares her knowledge and skills to those interested, showing how creative and relaxing this art form can be.
